The next Pinner Local History Society talk is The Metropolitan Railway during the First World War, by Richard Dennis on Thursday 6th February at 8pm in the Pinner Village Hall.
When World War I broke out in 1914 the Metropolitan railway was made subject to government control. It lost staff to military service and women were employed. The City Widened Lines assumed major strategic importance as a link between the channel ports and the north for troop movements and freight.
